Here's Why

The situation in Colombia grows worse, day by day. The media in the U.S. has virtually ignored the untold story of a Dirty War rivaling and surpassing any of those that made headlines in the 1980's in Central America.

The situation is not hopeless, we feel, precisely because of the response from folks like you who, once they learn the facts about Colombia, say "That is outrageous. I'll do something". And day after day, more and more people are tuning in to the truth and showing their support for the brave men and women of Colombia who continue to "speak truth to power" and nonviolently oppose brutal naked force in Colombia.

Here's How

  • Educate yourself. Read the information here, write CSN for more information, look up the books we recommend in your library Book List.
  • Pick one of the outrages listed in these pages, and write to Ambassador Frechette, to Secretary of State Christopher, to President Samper, Senator Coverdell and your Senators. Send a copy to your local newspaper.
  • Go on a delegation to Colombia. CSN is organizing one for the winter 1998-99.
  • Talk with your friends, your affinity group, your housemates, the folks in your church, your band, your carpool.
  • Arrange for a Speaker on Colombia. Contact the Colombia Support Network. We will be organizing speaking tours in parts of the country where no Colombia groups yet exist.
  • And maybe, one day.....Develop a core of people concerned about Colombia. Find some progressive members of your city council or county board, and develop a sister city or sister county project with Colombia
