Urgent Action: Stop Paramilitary Activity in Landazuri Colombia Support Network, 12 December Since Saturday, December 9, members of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia-Magdalena Medio branch, have been encircling the CSN sister community of Landazuri in the Magdalena Medio region. These paramilitaries have been patroling the town in plainclothes while carrying short-range firearms. Despite their plain attire, they have left no doubt of their identity, distributing pamphlets signed by the paramilitary group and its immediate commander, who goes by the alias "Kankil" after a brand of rat poison. The group's arrival had also been foretold by October 30, 2000 graffiti saying "Our time has come--AUC" and "We don't want any more guerrillas--AUC." "Kankil's" group is a branch of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC in Spanish), Colombia's most notorious and brutal paramilitary organization.
